Honda Motors to focus on small car segment and diesel engines in India

In the October month there were reports that the Honda Motors is developing diesel power-trains for India and this shift of the company is inspired by the diesel cars demand in the country. Now, the same words are officially out by the company’s top representative.

Mr. Yasuhisa Arai, Chief Officer for Development and Operations at Honda R&D (Research and Development) Center said that the company knows the situation in India about the soaring petrol prices that has resulted in demand for diesel powered cars. The firm is ready to tackle the concerns as it is developing diesel engines for the Indian auto sector, he added.

Apart from this announcement he also spoke about the Japan based auto giant’s plans on production of compact cars. Mr. Arai said that earlier the company had introduced compact car Brio in the nation, as the demand for such cars is higher as compared to bigger sedans, hence the company is entirely focused on small cars in India.

For Honda Motors, the three major auto markets are United States, China and Japan, but India is also very vital, as the pace at which the progress is taking place in the nation it will surely surpass China at any point of time as a result emphasis will on India too, according to Mr. Arai.
Earlier, Honda Motor’s component supplying factories in Thailand were submerged due to extensive floods in the country that resulted into very limited or at times no supply of spare parts to the Indian manufacturing units. Due to unavailability of parts in India the Honda Jazz is observing back log of booking orders and waiting period of over four months.
